Finland Summer Grand Route

Day 1: Arrival at Helsinki

  • After arrival at the Helsinki airport, check-in at the hotel.

  • Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a vibrant seaside city of beautiful islands and great green parks.

  • In the evening, walk around Töölönlahti Bay in the heart of the city surrounded by beautiful parks.

Day 2: Helsinki

  • Friendly, Scandinavian, functional, compact, easy to reach – Helsinki is all these and much more.
  • Take the SIC city tour and the main highlights include Helsingin Tuomiokirkko, Market Square, Temppeliaukio Church, Uspenskin Cathedral, and Sibelius Park.
  • The historic quarters between the Market Square and Senate Square are home to numerous cafés and restaurants.

Day 3: Helsinki – Tallinn – Helsinki

  • Day trip to Tallinn – take the ferry trip from Helsinki to Tallinn and on your own wander around the romantic Old Town.
  • Visit small boutiques, stop for a cup of coffee at one of the charming cafés, or enjoy a pint in a beer cellar.
  • Get to know the new trendy districts like Kalamaja and Noblessner with interesting sights, shops, and restaurants.
  • In the evening, take the ferry back to Helsinki.

Day 4: Helsinki – Kuopio (day train)

  • This day have a train trip to Kuopio (it takes about 4 hours) which lies in the Lakeland region of Finland.

  • Kuopio is a thriving, modern city, where science and technology blends into the verdant natural beauty of the local environment. One third of Kuopio is water and a half forest; the surrounding area possesses great natural beauty, rich in flora and fauna.

  • We would suggest visiting the town center where a vibrant open marketplace is surrounded by the best in modern shopping outlets and malls and features the delightful Kuopion Kauppahalli. 

Day 5: Kuopio

  • Day for exploring on your own. We would suggest visiting Kuopio Town Hall, Kuopio Cathedral, and Männistö Church – a terrace church located in a suburban development with prefabricated housing blocks.

  • In the afternoon visit the famous landmark of Kuopio – Puijo Peak, and the ridge of Puijo is among the most popular recreation areas of the city.

  • The hill is 150 metres high, has an observation tower on its peak, and is situated close to the city center of Kuopio, Puijo observation tower, Tower restaurant, and Hotel Puijon Maja.

Day 6: Kuopio – Kajaani (day train)

  • Have a train trip to Kajaani (it takes about 2 hours), which is further in the Lakeland region. This picturesque town lies on the Oulujoki River and is famed for its fishing and for the beauty of the surrounding region which includes the nature protection area Talaskangas and the Otanmäki Bird Basin.

  • Explore on your own the oldest building in the centre of the town – the Town Hall, where you will find the Kajaani Art Museum, situated in the town’s former police station.

Day 7: Kajaani

  • Day for exploring on your own. Continue to explore the city, find the old tar channel, the gatekeeper’s house, and the Jaeger monument.
  • Visit the second oldest building in Kajaani, the old library is now home to an arts & crafts center and Taito Shop Kainuun Pirtti.
  • Find the ruins of famous Kajaani Castle and visit The Evangelic-Lutheran church.
  • Nearby you will be becharmed by the famous wooden church in Paltaniemi.

Day 8: Kajaani – Rovaniemi (day train)

  • Have a train trip to Rovaniemi (it takes about 5.30 hours), which is further in the Arctic region. Welcome to Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus.
  • In the evening, experience the midnight sun arctic picnic. The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the summer months in places north of the Arctic Circle, when the sun remains visible at the local midnight.
  • A wonderful night adventure for unique natural phenomena lovers. Our tour takes you up to the top of the Santavaara Hill.

Day 9: Rovaniemi

  • Visit to Santa’s Village. You will be taken to the most exciting, popular destination in Finnish Lapland, located in the Arctic Circle, north of Rovaniemi. The place gives you a jolly and cheerful feeling of Christmas all year round.
  • Explore Santa Claus Village with a lot of Christmas and Lappish products to take back with you, and greet Santa Claus in his office!
  • Join the elves working in Santa’s post office, send postcards to all your friends with a special stamp on them.

Day 10: Rovaniemi

  • Visit Reindeer Farm & Husky park. While visiting the traditional Reindeer Farm and Husky Park, you will be able to engage in the local reindeer herding and husky dog mushing traditions.

  • At the reindeer farm you will have a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the deeply-rooted traditions of reindeer herding in Finnish Lapland and feeding them with delicious and nutritious food.

  • After you have learned all about the reindeers it is time to take a drive to meet our fluffy friends, Siberian huskies!

  • You can learn from the guides in Husky farm the ways to take care of the huskies, how they start preparing them for the winter, and how they live here in Finland all around the year.

Day 11: Departure. 

After breakfast, check out from hotel. Take an airport transfer and board your flight. Your Finnish holidays end here!
