Day 1 · Ubud · Into the green
Landing and driving straight up to Ubud, away from the airport strip. The temperature drops as the road climbs into the rice terraces.
Day 2 · Ubud · Temples and terraces
Tirta Empul at opening, with the queue of Balinese waiting to bathe rather than tourists, then the terraces before the coaches.
Day 3 · Ubud · Yours
A free day. Ubud is for slowing down rather than seeing things, and the valley from your own terrace is most of the point.
Day 4 · Ubud · Sunrise, or the market
Mount Batur at six in the morning above the cloud if you want it, or the art villages if you do not.
Day 5 · Uluwatu · South, to the cliffs
Down to the south coast where the island turns dramatic, and the Kecak dance at Uluwatu with the sun going down behind it.
Day 6 · Uluwatu · The cliffs, and the sea
A free day for the beach clubs at the bottom of a hundred steps, the surf, or the pool.
Day 7 · Uluwatu · Nothing at all
The Indian Ocean from a cliff, doing absolutely nothing. The day that justifies coming this far.
Day 8 · Uluwatu · A last day
One more sunset from the same spot as the first. Nothing scheduled and a late checkout arranged.
Day 9 · Denpasar · Home
A last coffee before the airport, which is twenty minutes away.
