Day 1 · Singapore · Land, and use the airport

A short flight and the world's easiest arrival. Dinner at a hawker centre on the first night, which is the correct introduction to this city.

Day 2 · Singapore · Gardens, and the bay

Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay circuit with a guide for the morning, then the supertree show at seven forty five, which is free and unmissable.

Day 3 · Singapore · The island, and the food

Sentosa or the Botanic Gardens, then a hawker food walk that ends where the queue is longest and the locals are.

Day 4 · Langkawi · North, to the island

A short flight to Malaysia and an island that is the opposite of the city you just left, with the cable car up Gunung Machinchang and the sky bridge at the top.

Day 5 · Langkawi · The rainforest

A walk with a resident naturalist who can find the hornbills, flying lemurs and pit vipers you would walk straight past, then the beach for the afternoon.

Day 6 · Langkawi · The islands, by boat

A private boat through the Kilim mangroves and the limestone stacks, with eagles overhead and lunch at a fish farm.

Day 7 · Langkawi · Nothing at all

A completely free day. The Andaman at seven in the morning is flat and empty.

Day 8 · Langkawi · A last day

Nothing scheduled and a late checkout, with one more sunset over the Andaman.

Day 9 · Singapore · Home

A short flight back and the connection home, with a last kaya toast at Changi.
