This is Japan through its hands: the tea master, the indigo dyer, the knife-maker, the paper artisan. A journey of appointments rather than attractions — each one earned over years of showing up respectfully.

The ceremonies Tea with a master who receives perhaps a dozen guests a year, a kaiseki counter where the menu is a conversation, and zazen at dawn with monks who don't perform for visitors.

The workshops Into studios rarely opened: indigo vats a century old, a swordsmith's forge, washi paper lifted sheet by sheet from mountain water.

You leave with objects, but mostly with standards — permanently raised.
