Maldives, Seychelles or Mauritius: which is best for an Indian honeymoon?

The short answer

For most Indian couples the Maldives wins: about three hours nonstop from Mumbai, a free visa on arrival, and the finest water villas anywhere, at ₹8 lakh to ₹22 lakh for two for six nights, land only. Choose the Seychelles (₹8 lakh to ₹20 lakh or more) for wild granite beaches and two islands in one trip, and Mauritius (₹5 lakh to ₹14 lakh) for space, food and the gentlest price.

The three islands, side by side

All three are warm, safe and easy on an Indian passport. They differ in what a day feels like: the Maldives is water and stillness, the Seychelles is forest, granite and empty coves, Mauritius is a real country with mountains, food and a golf course behind the beach.

Choose the Maldives if

  • You want the overwater villa, a house reef and days with nothing in them.
  • You have five or six nights and want to lose as little of them as possible to flying.
  • You marry between November and February: December to April is the Maldives' dry season, which lines up with the Indian wedding calendar.
  • Snorkelling with mantas or turtles matters, and you are happy on one island the whole time.

Choose the Seychelles if

  • You want beaches that feel discovered rather than built: Anse Source d'Argent on La Digue, the Vallée de Mai palm forest on Praslin.
  • You would rather split six nights across two islands, say Mahé and Praslin, than stay on one.
  • Privacy is the point: North Island and Fregate Island Private are among the most secluded hotels on earth, and priced like it.
  • You travel in April, May, October or November, when the sea is calmest between the trade winds.

Choose Mauritius if

  • You want more than a beach: hiking Le Morne, catamaran days, golf, a market lunch in Port Louis.
  • Food matters, and you want vegetarian and Indian dishes without asking twice.
  • You want the most villa for the money. The best resorts, such as One&Only Le Saint Géran, The Oberoi and Four Seasons at Anahita, cost less than their Maldives equivalents.
  • You travel between May and December. January to March is cyclone season, worth avoiding for a once-in-a-life trip.

What it costs.

Considered · ₹5L to ₹9L for two

Six nights at a great Mauritius resort in a beach suite, or a refined Maldives island in a beach villa in shoulder season, with transfers, half-board and the dinners that matter booked ahead.

Elevated · ₹9L to ₹16L for two

A Maldives water villa with its own pool on a quiet northern atoll, or a Seychelles split between a Mahé hillside villa and Praslin, with a private sandbank dinner or a boat day to La Digue.

The rarest · ₹16L to ₹22L+ for two

The islands people do not post: a residence-scale Maldives villa with a host, or a private island in the Seychelles where yours is one of a handful of villas. North Island alone can exceed this band.

Bands are for two, six nights, land only. Christmas and New Year add 25 to 40 percent everywhere, and many Maldives resorts set minimum stays then. Business-class flights add roughly ₹1L to ₹3L per person, least for the Maldives.

Which is better for an Indian honeymoon, Maldives or Mauritius?

The Maldives for pure romance and water villas, at ₹8 lakh to ₹22 lakh for two for six nights, land only. Mauritius for space, food and value, at ₹5 lakh to ₹14 lakh for the same six nights.

Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives, Seychelles or Mauritius?

No consular visa. The Maldives gives a free 30-day visa on arrival and Mauritius is visa-free for up to 90 days. The Seychelles issues a visitor permit on arrival, but only once its online travel authorisation has been completed before departure.

How much does a luxury Seychelles honeymoon cost from India?

About ₹8 lakh to ₹20 lakh or more for two for six nights, land only. A private-island stay such as North Island can go well beyond that. Business-class flights are extra, usually with one stop.

Which is best in December or January?

The Maldives: December to April is its dry season. Mauritius is good in early December but enters cyclone season from January to March. The Seychelles is warm in December but windier than in April, May, October or November.

Where is vegetarian and Jain food easiest?

Mauritius, where Indian food is part of everyday life. Good Maldives resorts employ Indian chefs and will cook Jain meals when briefed a week ahead. In the Seychelles, the best hotels manage well with notice.

Can we combine two of them?

Rarely worth it on six nights. The Seychelles rewards two islands within the country, Mahé and Praslin or La Digue. Combining countries costs a full travel day each way and a second set of transfers.
